Pitta Dosha
Pitta dosha is formed from fire and water and is the principle of transformation in the body and mind. It governs digestion, metabolism, body temperature, vision and the processing of information and experiences. With qualities of heat, sharpness, lightness and intensity, Pitta types often have medium builds, strong appetites, sharp intellects, and natural leadership abilities.
When balanced; Pitta provides courage, clarity, decisiveness, strong digestion and radiant vitality. However, when aggravated it can show up as irritability, impatience, inflammation, heartburn, rashes or a tendency toward perfectionism and over-work.
To maintain harmony, Pitta benefits from cooling foods (like fresh fruits, leafy greens and herbs) calming practices that ease intensity, time in nature - especially near water - and cultivating balance between drive and relaxation.

Pitta in Excess
When Pitta dosha (fire + water) is in excess, hot, sharp qualities can become imbalanced and destructive. This imbalance manifests physically as inflammation, acid reflux, skin rashes and high blood pressure. Mentally as irritability, anger and an overly critical nature. To restore balance we must apply cooling, calming principles through diet and lifestyle, such as favoring sweet, bitter and astringent foods while avoiding spicy ones. As well as engaging in activities that reduce stress and heat. The goal is to channel Pitta's fiery energy into a positive, focused drive rather than letting it burn out of control.
Balancing Pitta with the Six Tastes
Favorable:
Sweet - Cooling, stabilizing, nourishing (milk, grains, sweet fruits, ghee)
Bitter - Cleansing and cooling (leafy greens, turmeric, aloe)
Astringent - Absorbs heat, calms inflammation (pomegranate, beans, lentils)
Use in Moderation:
Sour - Stimulates digestion but increases heat (citrus, yogurt, pickles)
Salty - Moistens tissues but overheats and retains water (salt, seaweed)
Minimize:
Pungent - Strongly heating, aggravates Pitta (chili, garlic, onion, mustard)
Best diet for Pitta = cooling, hydrating, fresh foods with Sweet, Bitter and Astringent dominance
